Goldmine Coffee Cake

This is a coffee cake that I grew up with.  It is so yummy, and there's chocolate in it.  Anyway this month our Sunday night dinners are breakfast meals.  This is last night's meal.

1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sour cream
6 tbsp. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. chocolate chips

For topping cream together, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.  Stir in chocolate chips; set aside.  For cake cream shortening, sugar and beat until light; add vanilla.  Beat in eggs, one at a time beating well after each addition.  Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda.  Stir in flour alternately with sour cream.  Turn half of batter into 10" tube pan that has been greased and lined on bottom with wax paper.  Sprinkle with half of topping.  Cover with remaining batter, sprinkle with remaining topping.  Bake at 350F for 50 minutes.
